DIY installation of a split airconditioning system?

February 15th, 2012

Posted by admin in How to DIY | 2 Comments »

Does any one know where I can find info on How to do a DIY installation of a small split airconditioning system? Specifically the 1 HP Fujita.

you cannot install them yourself and still have the factory warranty.I assume you mean a 1 ton Fujitsu ductless mini-split. If you buy them through the Internet then the warranty is voided as well and they will not give you any tech service at all. I’m a dealer and will not even service and unit that I did not personally install.

How can I set up a very economical/ DIY set up for taking high key or fashion photos?

February 14th, 2012

Posted by admin in How to DIY | 2 Comments »

Hi there, I make childrens clothing from home and sell them on ebay. I’ve seen pictures of models where the background is completely white. I’d love to take these kind of pics but cannot invest alot in lighting. Are there any possible DIY solutions for lighting?

You will work with has mentioned either a white wall or you can use a white sheet but you will want to make sure that there are no shadows. You can find two small inexpensive flashes that will slave (tripped by the one on your camera). You would want flashes because these are balanced for daylight. See the links below for what might work for you.

If you choose to use house hold incandescent light bulbs (150 watt ) these will have a warm cast (yellow) but can be fixed in photoshop.

If you choose the 150 watt lamps check Home Depot and look for the metal bell shaped housing with a spring loaded clamp on them. You can then clamp these to a chair or something like that to use as your "light stands". Do not keep these on all the time because they get very hot!!! You can use the lamp bell for the above "flash heads" also.

Have your model (child) stand about 3-4 feet from the background (white sheet, wall etc) and put the background lights facing the background (not your model) at a 45 degree angle. This will eliminate your shadows for you.

Also another source for you to sell your work at is this place:

Hope this helps you,
Kevin

How much does it really cost to build a DIY cabin?

February 13th, 2012

Posted by admin in How to DIY | 2 Comments »

My husband and I have looked at these DIY cabin home kits. The prices seem decent enough, but too good to be true.
What are the real costs of building one of these homes? Are they as easy as they say they are to build? Has anyone built one and can offer any advice?
The company we are looking at is Coventry Log Homes if that helps.

You’ll need a buildable lot, well, septic or privy, a foundation, permits, heating system, and i don’t know if the kits have all the wiring and plumbing, but if not, you’ll need those. this will probably double or exceed the cost of the cabin itself.
